Spring
Planning a new driveway: what to sort out first
Spring is the busiest time for driveway enquiries. Getting these things straight before you ask for quotes makes the whole job smoother.

Drainage and the SuDS rules
In England, a new or replacement front drive over 5m² needs to be permeable or drain onto your own garden. Otherwise you need planning permission. Permeable block paving, resin bound and gravel all comply when they're built correctly.
Dropped kerbs
If you're creating new parking from the road, you'll need a dropped kerb approved by the council. Apply early, because it can take weeks.
Conservation areas and listed buildings
Towns like Ampthill and Olney have conservation areas, so check with the council before changing walls, frontages or materials.
Think about how you use it
How many cars? Do you need room to turn, a path to the door, somewhere for the bins? We'll factor it all into the design.
Compare like with like
When you're comparing quotes, ask about dig-out depth, sub-base thickness, edging and what the guarantee covers. That's where cheap quotes cut corners.
